The iPhone is here… hurray?

July 1st, 2007 Posted in Misc, Random Thoughts, Technology

For those of you who don’t know me very well, I’m a tech geek and nerd. I operate websites. I play my guitfiddle and program websites. Go figure?! Just wanted to set the context. Hopefully this post doesn’t scare you.

Anyway, the long awaited iPhone has been released by Apple. I’m not going to get one myself, seeing as it is only available for AT&T (which has gotten extremely bad reviews). And the price is steep. Take a look.

According to the small print on Apple’s rate plan webpage, you need to purchase a 2 year wireless service plan. This means your iPhonePod will cost you at least ($60/month * 24 months) + $500/iPhone = $1940 + $36 activation fee + tax. ~ tuaw.com

And because so many people are trying to get iPhones right now, it’s totally bombarding AT&T with requests. In a nutshell, activation times are extremely slow. Many people can’t even use their iPhones because of AT&Ts incompetence.

What’s funny is that AT&T claims that they have the fewest dropped calls. Due to their network infrastructure, if too many people are on the network at one time, you will be denied access to the network and you can’t even make a call. So… fewest dropped calls, ‘eh?! Just try making one to begin with. Another thing that is working against AT&T is the fact that they’ve never revealed what leading independent research company has conducted these tests and given AT&T the “fewest dropped calls” crown. Even Michelle Gruber said that AT&T stinks (she used to be with them, then switched)… and if it’s coming from her - well, it must be true!

No doubt the iPhone is ripping cool, but… the iPhone is here… hurray?

I agree. This phone looks amazing but its not worth all the hoops you have to jump through to use it and the pound of flesh that it costs you to buy it.
